APPLE PowerMac G5 Coolant Leaks World database

English version (je cherche un traducteur) | Version Française

Welcome,

If you have - like me - a G5 dual (or quad) which that has a coolant fluid caused critical damage, please register your report into this world database

Warning !

[17 Sept. 2007] The liquid that sometimes leaks from the cooling system of the G5 bi-processors is a very corrosive and potentially dangerous product. In the last few months, this issue has developed on G5 APPLE systems.

Is this problem a poor engineering design, or manufacturing defect of one or more parts? (Possibly incorrect use of the materials that comprise the cooling system, which is unable to handle the corrosive properties of the coolant)?

In any case, the leakage of this liquid results in heavy damage, since it requires the change of the cpu block, the power supply unit located just below and most of the time, damages the motherboard as well.

Let us not forget the corrosive effect of the liquid, and its vapors, which can affect the metal case components of the whole Mac chassis! Not speaking of what you might inhale ! In instances where repair is possible, it will cost over a thousand US dollars.

In most cases, the cost of repairs will become so excessive, that buying a new Mac is often a more judicious choice.
For the moment, APPLE has not acknowledged the issue

The firm decided to deny an obviousness, which would consist in, finally recognizing the little reliability of the cooling system on those machines.

According to our reports, the first symptoms can sometimes appear at the end of a few months of use, but more generally within the second year. (with a normal use) These machines generally not being any more under guarantee, APPLE prefers to line up behind this legal pretext, to avoid compensating its customers.
Result: Many among us will be obliged to pay expensive repairs, or give up purely and simply the loss of their G5 !

Let us not forget also that those machines were supposed, at the time of their manufacture, being the florets of the POWER MAC G5 series (thus, were most expensive!)
Thanks to a revolutionary cooling system of the processors, guaranteeing therefore, performances above standards and an exemplary reliability.

Last but not least, it is advisable to recall that APPLE NEVER took the trouble to inform their customers about the potiential danger of this cooling system, which in the event of possible leak, can damage the computer definitively ! (This said, it is impossible to detect from the start, a leak without the help of a qualified technician in order to remove the protection mask of the processors 's block).

Frankly, would you find logical, that a system containing such a corrosive product, (thus dangerous,) not beeing equipped with a specific detector able to inform you in case of a possible abnormal operation ? In the best cases, wouldn't it have been wise from Apple to ask their customers to have a regular inspection done by an approved center for this specific part, in order to check the correct operation of the system ?

In short, it is APPLE irresponsible behavior and the fact that they disparages its customers (often the most faithful ones) which is finger pointed. Let us hope that by creating this data base, it will be possible to count with the best possible accuracy, the accused park of G5 and also measure the extent of this failure. Thus evaluate the speed at which it will touch the watercooled G5 in the future.

Perhaps, at the same occasion we will, (for the people concerned) help them avoiding the premature loss of their hardware, or worse, than a drama does occur.

This database will be sent to all those who wishes to take, like me, a lawsuit towards APPLE.

Un exemple de fuite visible mais tardif : en effet, seul les débordements de liquide sont visibles et dans ce cas, la majorité des dégâts est déjà fait puisque masquée par les caches du bloc processeurs que l'on ne peut bien sûr pas enlever !!!

As you know, from APPLE, they say : "It's normal ! It's just a "classical" problem" on G5 Dual ! :(
